Wolf Alice Bros
This indie 4 piece from London brought us Fluffy first and now this slice of fabulous moody guitar slickery. In case you were worried this meant XX style seriousness, fret not. The mercy T’s for this release feature the Chuckle Brothers.

FTSE feat St Saviour Tidal Wave
From the FTSE 1 ep due july 1st from this UK beatmonger who you met via Begin.
This latest really IS miserable, yet the music belies that and then the glorious tone of Saint Saviour kicks in and you’re off – they could be singing about genocide and you wouldn’t care.

Liberty Vessels Sleep My Dreams Away
Here’s one more for the guitars aren’t dead argument – as if i ever took part in that. Sraightforward but with enough scouse nouse to make it intriguing. This new 4 piece have another track Youth doing the rounds too.

Kisses The Hardest Part
This is the first single from Kids in La, this LA duo’s second album and it’s a real 80′s electro pop with a touch of Bangalter about it. I’ve heard the album, it’s a fine slice of danceable intelligent pop.

God Damn Heavy Money
They’re a 3 piece from Wolverhampton who you met via I’m a Lazer, You’re a Radar in January. This is the title track of their latest ep and shows them starting to get a handle on their wild pony guitar style and offer up something that harnesses that energy.

Cadenza feat Deena Jonez The Darkest Hype
Cadenza (aka Oliver Rodigan) hooks Deena Jonez up with some quality dancehall infllected hip hop beats and produces this party smasher, due in July.

Skyway Get Yours
From the duo’s forthcoming album We Are Skyway this is as good am introduction to this rapper/producer singers team up as is possible. Future beach blanket party music. In a globe. With steam.

Catfish & the Bottlemen Homesick
This 4 piece have got a few ‘types’ in a lather, and whilst I wasn’t feeling their first (now really old and I thnk deleted) effort, this has them hitting their stride in fine form. Check their Homesick t shirts – featuring what can only be presumed is a homesick sperm.

Denai Moore Fatigue
Ooh, this is really great. It seems to start out one thing then becomes another, which is always hard to do, end especially impressive given that the lady is only 19. From the Saudade ep out now.

Young Hunting Maze
Taken from a forthcoming LP from this LA 5 piece it’s the only slice of summer we’ve experienced this week, so enjoy.

The Dead Heads
When I’m Dead
A bit of hippie grunge from this Sydney 5 piece and I LOVE IT, try not to tap your foot, hum along and air guitar the sliding line that runs throughout. They’re promising an LP to appear soon, this is a taster.

Ballet School
Ghost
is it me, or is there a kinda Fleetwood Mac with beats feel to this? British 3 piece based in Berlin working on new material to quell our raging appetites for more.
In the meantime, you can hear them guest on former NMMers LCMDF track, Rationality.

Monument Valley
When I Go Clear (feat Kerry Latham)
London producer working with kerry from peter and kerry and also from that Lapalux track from a previous episode.
It is classic pop but with an electronic sensibility and will feature on his forthcoming album due later this year.

Grmln
Teenage Rhythm
This Japanese Californian blew me away with his last track, and this latest, from his forthcoming LP (Explore) is a great surf pop party monster. Jimmy Eat World is getting bandied to describe the sound, and that’s a nice thing to hear.

Airbird and Napolian
In The Zone feat Erika Spring
Brooklyn’s Joel Ford (Ford and Lopatin) and LA’s Ian Evans have come together to make this slice of shimmering gorgeousness. It’s so vivd, it’s enough to induce synaesthesia. Erika from Au Revoir Simone drops the vocals and we’re all very giddy about the promised album.

Rhodes
Always
aka David from Hitchin, crafting a fine line in folksy, kinda Bon Iver in a beach hut, well written songs with the space of horizons in them. Looking forward to more.

Frugal Father
First Trim
Is one guy, naturally, called Mac Welch, a 23 yr old US producer currently working as a roadie. He’s got a keen eye and nicely crafted sentence, and you can hear a bit of The National in there, by way of say a DFA artist.

The River and the Road & Fields of Green
Separate Ways
OK, as i said when I heard it, there’s something Del Amitri/Deacon Blue about this, rather than the Mumford everyone may reach for due to the picking. This is a collaboration between TR&TR and Fields of Green.

Tropics
Home and Consonance
Tropics is Southampton producer Chris Ward and this is the title track of his new ep, in all it’s late night, smoky jazz room, ‘she done gone left me’ beauty.

Iyes
Glow
A Brighton based duo who are managing to use lessons learned from rave production to induce the kind of euphoria you get when falling in love/coming up on a pill in a dark room. It works.

Truls
Out Of Yourself
I nearly popped an adenoid trying to sing along to this upbeat cracker, from a newly emerging Norwegian singer songwriter.

Josef Salvat
Hustler
This is a rework of an older track for this Ozzie singer and follows on from a ballad he has out, This Life, if you wanna hear more. And you do.

LCMDF
Douchebag
The two Finnish sisters, who used to be called Le Corps Mince De Francoise, are releasing a trilogy of epos called Mental Health parts 1,2 and yes…3. This is fROm the second ep.

813
Sunny Lemonade
Finally, a sunny slice of summer! And it took a producer working out of cold old Moscow to make it. It’s all 808′s and handclaps and will have you shuggling in your seat and perving on whatever takes your fancy in no time.

Eric Howl
I’m Goin Down
You met him via the ace You Already Know, and this is a quite different track – more 50′s greaser cafe via the swamps than his Bollywood rap vibe thing on the last one. Like.

To Kill A King
Funeral
From forthcoming album Cannibals With Cutlery this London 5 piece have just announced a slot at Reading and Leeds this year, so it all seems to be coming together for them. Nice.

The Ramona Flowers
Lust and Lies
From their new ep which features mixes by Joe Godard and Ladytron, this is the sound of the soon to be touring band coming into their own. A Bristolian 3 piece who are starting to nibble at the edges of early Radiohead turf.

Waxahatchee
Coast To Coast
From the forthcoming Cerulean Salt LP and weighing in under 2 mins, it’s fair to say this is the more accessible entry point to the work of Katie Crutchfield, and a cracking one at that.

Oscar
Never Told You
It may not sound it, but this is just one guy in his room with an imac. The baritone brings a real depth and richness to the proceedings, and what’s not to like about crackly opera to open a track?

Candy Says
Favourite Flavour
Another refugee from a major deal, front lady Juju is now on her own and doing things her way. Now an Oxford 4 piece with a garage recorded album ready to go. We’re waiting.

Papa
Put Me To Work
Due 13th may, it’s like a piano led, art house Boss isn’t it? with a bit of TV on the Radio there. Love that, essentially, that piano riff is the chorus and I love the way it breaks down about two thirds in too.

Wampire
The Hearse
Yeee Haaahhh. makes me wanna go boxcar racing – and I’m from Oldham.
Wampire are Oregon based duo Eric and Rocky and this is gonna be their debut single proper, due 13th may. Taken from their forthcoming album Curiosity, due may 14th

Enjoyed
Poorpuss
Enjoyed is Peter from Hampshire, and don’t you just love that bubbly synth, as in bubblegum, but with a citric tang that keeps you on your toes. This track is on his current ep, Pieces.

Hiatus
We Can Be Ghosts Now (fest Shura)
Hiatus is Cyrus Shahrad who did an amazing album a few years back – I remember hammering Save Yourself to death at the time.
It really is like being in a bath of warm soapy happy beats. so delicate, yes robust. It’s the lead track from his forthcoming album Parklands, due may 13th. I’ve heard it, it’s lovely.

Homework
It’s All Over
They’re a Scottish 4 piece who’ve just put this track out as the second single to be taken from their album 13 Towers, which came out 25th March.

Phoria
Red
5 piece from brighton, this is from the Bloodworks ep due in April. There’s a nationwide tour on the cards too.

Salt Cathedral
Take Me To The Sea
5 piece from Brooklyn who are promising a full length by the end of the year and on the sounds of this and another I’ve heard, it’s gonna be a polished, Foals’y affair.

Lapalux
Without You
Fetauring vocals of Kerry Leatham, this is a cut from the forthcoming album Nostalchic. Lapalux is 25 yr old Essex producer Stuart Howard

The Hics
Cold Air
6 piece from London, this is the title track from their debut ep. Given that they’ve only just done their first live date and this is their first release, you can hear why we’re all getting a bit giddy about them.

Clams Casino
One Last Thing
This producer (Mike Volpe) just keeps getting better and better. This is actually from the second instrumental mix tape he’s done. If you get a chance, check his production work on A$AP Rocky and the excellent Mikky Ekko.

Ski Lodge
Just To Be Like You
http://skilodgemusic.com/
4 piece from Brooklyn who have put this out to keep you sane until the album is ready. Love the blend of 80′s pop bands in there – defo picking up some Smiths too, which is nice.

Iberia
Everyday
https://www.facebook.com/iberiamusic
They’re going with a more pop feel than their last offering, and it’s a lovely slice of slick production and gorgeous vocals floating throughout. Iberia are Swedish but Berlin based duo who used actual footage of fans before a Thunderdome gig in the video for this, to rather good effect.

Bad Grammar
Tie or Die
https://www.facebook.com/badgrammaruk
A boy/girl combo from Manchester, they’ve just done a date with Wet Nuns, and this is gonna be their debut single thru Gravy records.

RX Gibbs
Macro
https://soundcloud.com/rxgibbs
Love this Michigan producer – he’s got a handle on electronica flecked dream pop and brings something new to the party every time. From his forthcoming album Contact, due April.

Beatrice Eli
It’s Over
http://beatriceeli.com/
It’s a fact that Swedish and synthpop just roll off the tongue, but makes sense as they’re just so darned good at it. This is the title track of her 4 track ep which also features her former, kinda breakthru track, Conquistador.

Only Real
Backseat Kissers
https://www.facebook.com/onlyrealreal
It’s just Niall Galvin making this noise in his bedroom, but it sounds so fresh and sunny and, well, chirpy. West London cocky sparrow like chirpy….Yes, that was deliberate. Just don’t say ‘the new Jamie T’ (by the way, has anyone seen him recently?)

Kult Country
Slowburn
https://soundcloud.com/kult-country
This is getting a release at the end of April and that riff ought to still be hanging in the air then. Lots of folk getting a bit giddy about this Manchester band.

Spring King
Let’s Ride
https://www.facebook.com/springkingmusic
Basically Tarek Musa who’s taken the name of a pedal and recruited some pals. This is a reworked version of the song, and that bit of extra time spent on it has really paid off, it leaps at you and stays locked on your back till its done.

Eli Mardock
Beat, Heart
http://www.elimardock.com/
From the Hamburg ep he’s just put out, this is the newly single Omaha singer songwriter who was formerly in Eagle Seagull. Possibly the only time I can handle a high pitched guitar solo, so take note. His album, Everything Happens for the First Time is due in May.

Casual Sex
Soft School
facebook.com/casualsexmusic
Glasgow 4 piece, new signing to moshi singles club out april 1st on limited edition 7″ vinyl and digitally. they played in london with teleman last week, so already picking up some good slots and hope to hear more soon.

Enjoyed
Peloton
http://www.enjoyedmusic.com/
Ooft. This is so ravey, taking all the right bits and leaving out the shit parts of that time (you know, the screechers and repeaters) then getting all Tangerine Dream on the remains. One guy from Hampshire, this is a track from his Pieces ep, due March.

Jonny Virgo
Battlescarred Rap
www.jonnyvirgo.com
Phew, take a breath buddy! It’s so SLICK and that weird bit running through it a trade greek song, apparently. So, yeah, pretty wild. Out now.

Keep Shelly in Athens
Madmen Love
www.facebook.com/keepshellyinathens
More from our favourite duo from Athens, and sounding a lot darker. It’s their new single out now digitally and on vinyl, and heralds an album, due soon.

Binary
You Need The Blue Key
facebook.com/thisisbinary
From the industropsych (!) 4 piece from London, this is due April 15th, and is the second track to come from Amber ep, produced by NiN Sean Beavan.
Fresh from touring with Marilyn Manson and Place To Bury Strangers, I’m feeling this kinda tripped road movie via Trans Am sound they’ve got.

Holy Esque
St
facebook.com/holyesque
Make sure you pronounce it Saint, or else you’ll blow your cool cover, it’s another fine offering from this uniquely vocalled Scottish outfit.

Sid Batham
All Lies
www.facebook.com/sidbathamofficial
Shit’s blowing up all over for this smooth toned crooner with some great production that lifts him high above the realm of out of town nightclub dancefloors that other vocalists might inhabit.

Dark Horses
Traps
www.darkhorsesmusic.com
Here’s the new one from the Brighton 5 piece with Richard Fearless twiddling the knobs, split with equally good track Boxing Day, it’s out now.
album out now called black music and both tracks on it.

Embers
Part of the Echoes
soundcloud.com/embersembers
About time somebody stepped into Verve’s wallabies, and these massive sounding Mancs are just the guys to do it.

Woman’s Hour
To The End
soundcloud.com/womanshourband
This London 4 piece are plucking (geddit? you will when you hear the track, click below) at our emotions with the delicate production and just the right side of disinterested vocals that hint at a sore heart and a soft couch. Out April 18th.

Celebration
Tomorrow’s Here Today
celebration.bandcamp.com
One half of a split release that dropped last month from this Baltimore outfit who are sharing these as they emerge, then collecting them all together at a later date and releasing them as Albumin. They will play ATP in may.

Jackie Onassis
Crystal Balling
www.jackieonassis.net
Lead single for their 8 track offering, Holiday for this Sydney based two piece – heard them all and love them. Get all the tracks free via their site

Hibou
Glow
soundcloud.com/petermichel/glow
LOVE this sound, but it does remind me of Diiv alot, who I also LOVE.
Peter Michel from Seattle, who’s got another track up that’s more summery and lazy in feel, i prefer the intricate guitar riff and laid back vocals of this.

Spectral Park
Ornaments
www.facebook.com/spetralparkade
You first met him back in 2011, with Pale Glistens…
He is Southampton Luke Donovan, and this is a track from his brand new LP, out last week on Mexican Summer.
he played all the music and all the records, literally sourced from a box of records he found on a walk by a council block’s curbside garbage. Donovan chopped them up and fed them through his sampler then seriously messed around with them, adding his own instrumentation.
Each song is a nugget, cobbled together yet sounding coherent and gleaming with all the facets within.

Menace Beach
Pick Up The Pieces
soundcloud.com/menacebeach
You met them last year when I played you Dream Out, but they were a lot scuzzier then, now it’s a kinda Julian Casablancas in a grungey basement feel.Bit of Sebadoh, on a brandy woozy night out.
They’re from Leeds and have been working with Hookworm frontman Matthew Johnson.

Malpas
Where the River Runs
facebook.com/malpasmusic
Not a small town in Cheshire, but a London based duo doing some nice work in the folktronica field.
Title track of ep that came out last year, but as we’ve been out of the loop on this blog for a while, it seemed churlish not to include it, especially since they’re giving it away.

Young Dreams
First Days of Something
www.facebook.com/youngdreamsband
Norwegian indie collective are back in sparkling tropical form, looking forward to summer more than their last track Fog of War!
From album Between Places due 5th march.

Au. Ra
Morning
artishardrecords.bandcamp.com
Duo from Oz, played you their debut, Sun a while back, this is follow up and is getting a release on art is hard records new project – the postcard club – a release every month or so and you get a postcard designed by band or mates, and it’s all unique.

Empty Pools
Small Talk
emptypools.bandcamp
Due for a release on March 11th this Bristol 4 piece are nibbling the same biscuit that Cymbals Eat Guitars enjoy and are currently recording an album.

Khushi
When You Start
soundcloud.comkhushimusic
He’s an East London musician who’s gigging around the capital and bashing out tracks at a rate of knots. On this evidence, it’s worth popping over to his soundcloud to hear more.

Indians <br) I Am Haunted
facebook.com/heyiamindians
I know it’s late, and you’re all in love with him, but it’s SUCH a great track and the album Somewhere Else is great. Not least because it’s old school and gives you a CD when you buy the vinyl. Plus, i’ve been off, so, you know, it’s worth a play.

Treat Me Like A Baby
Night Engine
a slice of art pop for this london based 4 piece who are still in full time jobs.
this is getting a one off release on a vinyl only label.
album out by summer and for me it’s guitar rock done with an ear to dance production and rhythms.
Seventeen / Treat me Like A Baby out feb 18
31/1 Notting Hill AC
20/2 Borderline
Out of town supports with kaiser chiefs.
February
11 Carlisle The Sands Centre
12 Glasgow Barrowlands
14 Dunfermline The Alhambra Theatre
15 man
16 bridlington
18newcastle
19 preston
20 borderline london (not with kaisers)

Amy Poehler
Shear Jashub
About this time last year I introduced you to this chap via his remix of remixes project (star slinger’s anything). it was a self proclaimed attempt to get attention. well it worked, he’s got two new tracks up on amazing, and this is his newest.
mellow paced effort, achieving its greatness in its fragility dressed in an unabashed emotional honesty.
Apparently produced by Emile Haynie, of Eminem, Kid Cudi, and Lana Del Rey fame, and with a video and an EP to follow, this could mark a serious entry into wider audience recognition for Shear Jashub.
check heart of black too

Shipwreck
Henry Green
Came out backed by Shapes in december but there is more on the way.
singer songwriter, puts me in mind of a male Daughter, a son if you will. check his page and she’s there as an influence. from malmesbury

Borrowed Time
Parquet Courts
Brooklyn via Texas punks their first proper LP is out (Light Up Gold) came out in august but they’ve done a 2nd pressing and this track is on it.
no just the energy I like, but the lyrics are well crafted too.

Custom Love
Xander the Great
played you somewhere tonight last year
more kinda acoustic r and b innit? with a bit of spoken word in there too.
nice layers, nice restrained guitar, puts me in mind a bit of early dan black.
two piece – xander taha and ed sanders ( he was child in sweeney todd)
play 1st show i london 7th march and a single on the way that i’ve heard. good stuff. this is just to keep you going till then.

Oh Joel
Sauna Youth
lp called dreamlands out now – came out september.
4 piece in their own words a punk band who love the ramones from london this is their new double a side due for release 21st Jan other side is called false jesii pt ii, which for the more indue of you will obviously be a cover of pissed jeans.
their sound is a little less trashy than on their lp, more accessible. female fronted works for me. more indie than punk but I’m excited. nailed the indie pop gem in both these tracks.

Oi Peru
Is Tropical
been awful quiet since their debut album, but this is on a new ep called Flags out this week.
“In the weeks leading up to us starting work on the second album, we decided it would be a good idea to set aside some of the more electronic songs that were rattling around inside IS TROPICAL laptops and being fucked with in tour vans. Amalgamations and cousins to some of the demos that will end up on the next release, ‘Flags’ was about exorcising some of these dancefloor-based demo(n)s so we could go on to work on our record with fresh ears”
FLAGS EP tracklisting:
1. Mexico feat Goodbye Leopold and produced by DRUGZNDREAMZ
2. Oi Peru produced by VISIONS
3. Maria’s Colombia produced by Owen Pratt
4. Venezuela feat and produced by Get People

Growing Pains
Blackeye
4 piece from peckham with a rather cool looking lady up front. brilliant screw you attitude that you want in a snarling pop gem. think justine freshman at front of the undertones.
live dates soon, apparently.

Mirage
Heyerdahl
Whooshing, lying on a caribbean beach, waiting for your dakkari to arrive. From album Oen due 28th Jan.
4 piece from norway quietly blowing up over here. if you’re that way inclined they’re off to sxsw.

Quesso
Flamingods
forthcoming album Sun due jan 21st
features dustin wong, ponytail
just done a mini tour but more dates soon.
london via bahrain, i just found out. 5 piece aced in london doing psych world pop

Panic
War of Words
facebook.com/warofwords
Our new pop crushes – if Girls Aloud has grown up with older brothers who liked Massive Attack, this is what they’d be making.

Twin Rays
Gung Ho
facebook.com/gunghoband
If Tennis came from Brisbane and had some mathy sensibilities, they’d come over like this gorgeous slice of surf pop perfection.

Flutterby
Starlight Girls
facebook.com/starlightgirls
Brilliantly theatrical and full of knowing nods to 60′s girl groups and spooky vaudeville nights, we love. A lot.

Middle Child Syndrome
Pet
petpetmusic.bandcamp.com
There’s a claustrophobic distance to this track, and if that confuses you, once you hear the way it all comes together, you won’t accept any other description.

Teenage Doom
Dolfinz
soundcloud.com/dolfinz
A gloriously lo fi surf racket just made for playing back through thru a tinny house party system whilst getting hammered on Jagerbombs.

Never and Ever
Whales in Cubicles
facebook.com/whalesincubicles
Like a kinda fuzzier Weezer with some guest tweaks from Cymbals Eat Guitars in their best Pavement mood. They’re giving this away, so go get.

Anger
Wolf In a Spacesuit
facebook.com/wolfinaspacesuit
Full of gorgeously light touches with a great freaky disco breakdown and a vocal lying like Mr Whippy atop this electronic chamber pop confection.

Bottle
Texture Like Sun
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Texture-Like-Sun/213029612092902
Redolant of Deus’s Little Arithmetics, it has the same sweet longing and restrained, back room production feel to it and some great use of whistling – so hard to do well.

Heavens Below
Wet Nuns
soundlcoud.com/wet-nuns
Heavy assed blues punk n roll with a twist of redneck bottle bashery about them, this’ll get you doing that guitar face your girlfriend doesn’t find attractive.

Falling Wood
Joseph & David
facebook.com/joseph-david
You can check all the new names in folk & atmospherics, such as Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, Mumford, Beirut et al, but really, the vocals and arrangements are all their own.

On A Roll
Random Impulse
randomimpulses.wordpress.com
He’s just getting better and better, as folk are waking up to his mix of grunge and grime with full on punk ‘tude. 2012 will be his time.

King Shot
Sealings
soundcloud.com/sealings
Like a dirgey, poppy, gurney Salem covering Nirvana – there’s just something so…ACE about these guys…

Lunch
Kotki Dwa
kotkidwa.com
More mathy early XTC/Thomas Dolby witticisms from our favourite Polish inflected beat combo.

When Doves Cry
Midnight Lion
midnightlion.co.uk
We love the melancholic beauty of Midnight Lion’s vocals, so this restrained cover makes perfect, melodramatic sense to us.

Roman Summer
Bear Cavalry
facebook.com/bearcavalryband
From Gosport, they’re bringing a dense layered mathematical calypso of sound with more energy than a toddler on christmas promise.

VTOO
Torches
torchesband.com
More greatness emerging from what seems like everyone’s favourite new band. By all accounts, you MUST SEE THEM LIVE.

Tomorrow
Being There
beingthere.bandcamp.com
There’s something of the early 90′s college bands about these guys, all cutesy vocals, swoony backing and bouncing guitar lines.
